Explore Door County from the Water

Your adventure begins at Whitefish Dunes State Park. From the parking lot you’ll walk a short distance down the beach, meet you guide, and launch directly from the shoreline. From there, you’ll paddle along the Lake Michigan coast toward the famous sea caves near Cave Point.

Depending on lake conditions, you’ll either paddle into the caves themselves or enjoy incredible views from just offshore. On calm, clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of the historic Australasia shipwreck resting beneath the surface.

No two tours are exactly alike, making every trip a unique experience.

Safety Comes First

Lake Michigan is stunning, but it can also be unpredictable. That’s why safety is always the top priority at Door County Adventure Center.

Every kayak guide is professionally trained to American Canoe Association (ACA) standards, and all equipment is routinely inspected for quality and safety. Before launching, guides provide easy-to-follow paddling instruction so beginners can feel comfortable on the water.

Guests should plan to get a little wet, so it’s recommended to wear water shoes, sunscreen, and bring a change of clothes.

A Word from Our Guide

Here’s what one of our Adventure Guides, Emma Larson, has to say about leading the Cave and Dunes Kayak Tour:

“Guiding at Whitefish Dunes is one of the most exciting experiences because every tour is different. I love getting to know guests while also sharing my passion for the area’s geological formations and flora/fauna. Taking people into the caves, showing them the Australasia Shipwreck, and seeing guests leave with a greater appreciation for the natural landscape makes the experience very rewarding.”
