Wisconsin's typical March weather in years past has been frigid, cold and windy. Yes, it is the start of Spring, but normally these weather patterns never surface. 2012 is a different story! Because of the unseasonably warm weather, our Adventure Team would like to say thank you Mother Nature! We have been receiving calls left and right to book summer programs because people are finally thinking ahead due to the warm weather. In addition, more people are even willing to book now and zip line with us because it's so beautiful out! To say thanks, today we are giving back to the community. We are helping the Sunshine House, an extraordinary business that employs individuals with varying ability levels to help local businesses thrive. Moira, one of our team members, is heading over today to play some balloon games and take a walk outside. "The Sunshine House and TLC has a longstanding relationship where we provide fun, stress-free days for their employees. Today I am heading over there in hopes to captivate their workers and establish a connection with them to bring more interest to the programs we offer the Sunshine House," says Moira. When collaborating in a group, the most beneficial decision you can make for your team is to decide to close your mouth. Our need to speak is highly greater than our need to listen. The TLC Team is blessed with the opportunity to work with different kinds of groups of people all year round. Every time we get in front of a group, these words preached above are the focal point of our message. Unintentional disrespect is the root to our team stressing this key point. Think back to the days of your childhood. What did your brain say when people would talk over you, interrupt you or just plainly not listen when you were speaking? "They do not care about me." Congratulations! Now you get to play the who can best who game because of the unintentional disrespect that was shown in such a short period of time. This is before you even get to know that person. You have no idea who they are, where they come from and visa versa. However, it doesn't matter because in less than 5 seconds that bad habit we all suffer from came to play and there is little forgiveness. So when you are going about your business today, keep track of how much unintentional disrespect we allow in our lives. It is amazing what a patient ear can do for a person!! Inspiring Young Leaders in Door County, WI 12/14/2011
At our first countywide meeting this morning, progress was made. Our young leaders of Door County, WI inspired the adults in the room as they took initiative, perspective, energy, drive and new focus to another level. When the room was asked, summarize why you are here in one word or phrase, this was the list that was created by DC's young leaders aging from 14-18 years old: "I choose, I want, change, to be a leader, irritation, difference, important, influence, help, opportunity for change, to be better, to do the best we can do, inspired, for the future, for a purpose, to provide a better future for younger students, to make a better environment throughout Door County, committed, a vision, and dedication." Four to six students from Gibraltar, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Washington Island, and Sevastopol came together today to decide they are creating "Project 180," a county wide, student led initiative to prevent, influence and provide support for AODA users, abusers, advocates, and supporters. These leaders will be responsible for implementation, advocacy, transfer of information, mentoring and more to their peers back at their schools. The students were so excited that they took initiative to create a logo, slogan and t-shirt design prior to the meeting in order to get the ball rolling. "Impressive is an understatement," voiced Tim Pflieger, the Founder and Owner of the Team Leadership Center. He is the backbone of Project 180 and will be the professional providing training for these unique young adults. Along with bi-monthly meetings facilitated and organized by him and his team, TLC will also be hosting a Leadership Bootcamp in summer. The student leaders of Project 180 will be the participants in the boot camp, testing their skills and preparing themselves for the future. Click "Like" if you are genuinely impressed by the positive influence these students are about to have STATE WIDE. Comment, and let us know what you think! Welcome Mandie! 11/09/2011
We would like to introduce Mandie Van Harpen as our newest team member here at the Team Leadership Center (TLC). As our new sales and marketing coordinator she is very excited for the opportunities that lie ahead and to be joining such a dynamic organization. Team building has always been a very important aspect of her life as she has been a member of many different teams throughout her life thus far. She looks forward to the opportunity to share her experiences and background with the wide variety of individuals, teams and organizations that TLC works with. Mandie has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from Edgewood College in Madison, WI. At Edgewood she was involved in many campus activities and clubs along with playing on the Edgewood girls’ soccer team. Her past work experience includes sales, marketing and recruiting. Mandie grew up in Kaukauna, WI and attended Xavier High School in Appleton where she played basketball, soccer, and tennis. Mandie is interested in many outdoor activities, such as running, rollerblading, skiing, soccer, hiking, etc. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends. Mandie is always willing and excited to try new things. We are pleased and excited to welcome her to the team! This is why I do what I do! 10/21/2011
I had some fantastic campers this year in Camp Confidence- it was truly a blast. Camp Confidence is one of my favorite parts of each summer because I really get to know the kids and see positive results in such a short period of time. Many days, the group, team building sessions run a little short for my liking because I do not get the opportunity to understand where my clients are coming from. At camp, we are all on the same page and move forward at the group's comfort level. Here's where the fun part comes in- feedback from parents! I love hearing the stories kids tell their parents at home because they usually are a portion of the truth but are so cute that they stick with you for days to come. Here is a testimonial I received today from two of my campers Mom: Dear Moira, We just wanted to let you know how much our boys loved Camp Confidence. What a wonderful experience they had. The second day of camp my 9-year-old Andrew hugged me and said, “thanks for signing me up for this camp mom, it’s the Best!!!” He usually says: “Why do you keep signing me up for camps?” R. J. my 10-year-old was extremely excited and he looked forward to it everyday. He wanted to sign up and go again the next week! They were sad when it was over. Their favorite was the “flying squirrel” and the zip lines. They also loved the challenges of the rock wall and rope climbing. The kindness you showed and the encouragement you provided was the perfect mix for a fun, loving and challenging environment. We hope that you will do this again next year, as my boys will surely want to do it again. Thanks for a great camp experience! The Minten Family R.J., Andrew, Nancy & Rick THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND FEEDBACK! What's Been Goin' on Here at TLC 10/18/2011
Things are going strong here at Door County's Adventure Center. This past month the TLC Team has been privileged to work with so many awesome clients such as Breast Cancer Recovery, UW Milwaukee Women's Basketball Program, St. Norbert College Hockey, and athletes and coaches from Sturgeon Bay, Southern Door, Gibraltar and Sevastopol high schools in Door County's AODA Leadership Conference. While working the the Breast Cancer Recovery group this month, these courageous ladies helped us learn more about ourselves, while we provide them with the opportunity to reaffirm their self-worth and true identity. The ladies overcame personal fears, group fears and learned that "taking inventory" and "paying a visit to the garage" are essential strategies to remain empowered. The athletes and coaches that joined us at the Leadership Conference were simply inspiring! All 148 student athletes and 38 coaches broke through their leadership block and now have strategies to transfer the impactful information they received from Tim Pflieger and John Underwood. Sidenote: Tim is the founder of the Team Leadership Center and is a professional speaker, a main reason many corporations and groups hire TLC to provide cutting edge, energy-filled learning opportunities for their organizations. The students and coaches alike gave some great last words as they summarized the day in one sentence saying, "This experience has inspired us to move forward." "As leaders we will empower!" "A call to action experience." "We won't stand for anything less than excellence!" "Tomorrow is too late." "This inspiring, unifying day will break through." Thank you for an awesome October so far, you ! WEAR YOUR PINK PROUDLY THIS MONTH! Milwaukee's Inspiring Weekend 10/10/2011
The beginning of the month started off strong with Milwaukee Women's Basketball team joining us for a kayaking, camping, & team building weekend. It was an incredible transformation to see the girls thrive in elements most of them would choose not to be in if given the choice. The girls were full of respect, kindness, inspiration, new perspective, intelligence and above all athleticism as they progressed throughout the weekend and let their talents shine. First challenged by some problem solving activities, the girls gained perspective at where they were at as a team. From here, they were challenged in a sport they were unfamiliar with and had to walk across unstable ground by switching boats in a floating raft. Leaving an impression on me, however, was the end of day campfire. There is something to be said about staring into flames, deep in thought, and engaging in meaningful conversation. BGB, their camp name, became the end of the weekend cheer as they left us with smiles. Thank you Panthers, and good luck with your season. May you have success in what you do! If you are interested in multi day trips for your group, please contact us. We outfit, program and cater the entire trip for you. Be on vacation from your problems and indulge in or world's beautiful outdoors! Fall Clientele List 09/10/2011
